Flying Cyclone - Macrostemum

Flying Cyclone - Macrostemum
Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana, USA
July 1, 2015
Thousands of these insects were madly flying in circles, loops, zig-zags and random designs. Some were creating cyclones! They were in the air (and on my hand) and very difficult to catch. They obliged for a moment. I suspect they just hatched from the St. Joseph River, just feet away. Thought they were moths at first, but no, not even. Weather was lovely; sunny and warm (70) after many days of rain.
