Size: body length 22 mm
I understand that there are a lot of different species of these guys so will not even guess! They are common under rocks and wandering on the ground after rain at Lake Hodges.

Cricket?
I saw one of these unearthed at a construction site in Cornado, CA when I was a fifth grade kid...it looked tremendous, and at that time I had no idea that it was a cricket...I thought it was some type of larvae or monsterous spider...now I wish I had saved it. I am told these make fine 'pets'. In cricketdom, I think that this is second scariest in appearance...only the Australian Tree Weta is more ferocious in appearance with its huge head and jaws.

Stenopelmatus
Turns out there are over fifty species, nearly all of them awaiting formal description and names. Several are endemic (found only) to isolated dune systems in southern California.
