orange longhorned caddisfly - Oecetis

orange longhorned caddisfly - Oecetis
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
July 9, 2004
Size: eye to wingtip 10 mm
Came to porch light. Antennae more than twice as long as wings; family Leptoceridae, maybe an Oecetis species? There's few pictures of caddisflies on the web.

Thanks, Lloyd

Oecetis
The color and little dark spots on the forewing would seem to be consistent with Oecetis avara. Another possibility might be O. ochracea. I'm not familiar with ochracea (and can't find a good description), but the name is suggestive. Both species are recorded for Ontario.
