Large Mexican Honey Wasp Nest - Brachygastra mellifica

Large Mexican Honey Wasp Nest - Brachygastra mellifica
Somewhere near the Mexican border..., Texas, USA
Size: 36" circ. x 12" dia.
This unique nest is part of my own personal collection. As you can clearly see, the envelope itself makes up the combs. The cells are actually constructed directly onto the envelope to form the combs (As a result, the combs are very thin!). This is just the opposite of Vespinae nests in which the envelope and combs are seperate from one another.
