Narrow-Winged Tree Cricket - Oecanthus niveus - male

Narrow-Winged Tree Cricket - Oecanthus niveus - Male
Wimberley, Hays County, Texas, USA
July 13, 2015

Interesting individual of O. niveus
...when I first glanced at it, I thought it might be O. californicus because of the cream colored face and head, but it would have had black antennae.

The light colored antennae with that base of the antennae black mark making an inward hook (along with dark orange on the head) indicates O. niveus. Only O. niveus has that ' J ' hook marking.

Hays Co. is probably on the western edge of its range.

Very cool. I haven't seen one
Very cool. I haven't seen one of these here before so I really appreciate the ID. Thanks!

adult male tree cricket
in the genus Oecanthus. Nancy will know which one.

Moved from ID Request.

Thanks!
Awesome. I was wondering if it was related to katydids/crickets because of those legs. It visited us the other night, I guess drawn by the porch light. Then it flew into my mom's face. :)
