Variegated June Beetle - Polyphylla comes

Variegated June Beetle - Polyphylla comes
Blowing Rock, Watauga County, North Carolina, USA
Pretty big bug. Caught my eye on the screen door in early AM. Bug hung around most of the day. Much larger than the June Bugs I am used to. . .is it a 10 lined? The markings on its back are pretty broken up as opposed to some of neat markings on the photographs of the 10-lined June Beetles.

MJ,
If you could add a word or two of explanation to help us non-experts understand the difference between comes and variolosa (or any other wrongly assigned critter you correct), that would be a great educational benefit.

Same genus,
but I think it's the Variegated June Beetle.

Varigated June Beetle / Polyphylla Variolosa
Thanks for the ID - Good to know that it was not just a "messy" 10-lined one!
