Beetle larva

Beetle larva
Limestone Glade, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA
May 16, 2007
Size: aprox.15mm
found near the body of a dead dog.

Silphidae
Charles, I believe this is a Silphid larva.

Silphidae
Stephen, You are right, thanks.
I wonder how long before they turn into adults?
It's a long way from my house.

Thanatophilus ?
It is a larva of Thanathophilus sp. or Necrodes surinamensis, I can't be sure. For the time before they become adult it is very variable. It will depend of the temperature. Since it look like the last larval stage, will be something between 3 to 12 days.

Thanatophilus ?
Thanks Pierre-Marc;
I will try to get back in 10 days and see if there are adults.

Well, I'm not to much familia
Well, I'm not to much familiar with the behaviour of the Thanatophilus spp., but in general, the Silphidae larvae leave the carrion for pupate and go sometime quit far away (except the Nicrophorus spp.). So, if you find some adult on the carrion when you'll go back, it will probably not be this larva. But anyway, if you go back and that you're lucky, you'll possibly find some adult Trogidae on the carrion.

Carrion beetle
Thanks for the info.
