Ground spider - Thanatus

Ground spider - Thanatus
Triunfo Creek Park, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 21, 2015
Size: 8mm-ish
I think this is Lycosidae, Schizocosa seems to be the best genus though I can't find a species match. Sort of crab spiderish.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

Thanks for genus confirmation
Do you know any resources that show what albimontis looks like? Of the two species known in my county it doesn't look like vulgaris, but I can't find pics of albimontis to compare.

Info page has a link
to the crab spiders of CA. According to the map on page 95 your spider is more likely T. formicinus.

Thanks
Interesting map. Even formicinus is quite far out if we were to assume the map is still current. Only peninsulanus is in range of that map.

What do you suggest I photograph if I encounter this genus (or the family) again?

Actually
your location has no species on the map now that I look at it again, but I think you're right peninsulanus is probably more likely. I really don't have any tips on photographing this genus at this time. A good dorsal and a good ventral are always safe bets.

The eyes look wrong for Lycosidae
How about Thanatus?

Ah I remember that one
Looks good. There only seem to be a few species options so hopefully it can be identified.

EDIT: Going by and other resources, it seems it must be Thanatus altimontis as it surely isn't vulgaris. Hope an expert can confirm.
