May - June bug? - Cotalpa lanigera

May - June bug? - Cotalpa lanigera
Ham Lake, Anoka County, Minnesota, USA
May 14, 2007
Size: about 1 inch long
There were a lot of what I know as May/June beetles on our porch, with this one standout. What is it? It didn't act the same and it was slightly larger. I didn't come across any plain light-colored ones in the guide.

Not an expert, but it looks like this one to me
Goldsmith beetle, a relatively new post.

Thank you!
Thank you! That does look like it.

I did some research and some websites have this listed as Cotalpa Consobrina and some Cotalpa Lanigera. And some of them are more 'golden' than others. How can I tell which is which?

Chances are good
You most likely have Cotalpa lanigera This is the most widely distributed North American species and the only species of Cotalpa occurring in North Dakota.
