Zophobas subnitens

Zophobas subnitens
Portal, SWRS, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
July 29, 2005
Size: 1.6cm
Zophobas is distinguished from the other Tenebrionini in that it has dense yellowish setae pads on the venter of their tarsi AND its metasternum is about twice as long as the metacoxa (it flies). This specimen was found crawling on the ground at night. While there may be other undescribed species of Zophobas from the southwest, to my knowledge, subnitens is the only described species from the area.
