Comb-clawed Beetle - Androchirus erythropus - female

Comb-clawed Beetle - Androchirus erythropus - Female
Beaver Creek, Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
May 17, 2007
Size: 10 mm
A special one for me - I was able to watch and film the entire eclosion process of a beetle for the first time. And special also because this beetle emerged just in time to celebrate my birthday. Well, eclosure actually occurred after midnight, so technically it was belated ;-)

Thank you
for the info, Jim. I've updated the image info to reflect that.

Happy birthday!
You do know how to party :-)

Thanks Ron
I did have a guest who never showed up ;-) It was a Ceccropia moth ... he/she's still snuggled away in a cocoon.
