I found one of these too!
In 2002, I my kids found a rare pink katydid like yours! (We live in Berrien County, Michigan, close to Lake Michigan.) We photographed it and then let it go! It was a female. Two years later, in the same garden, we found another, a light one, which was small like yours. We kept it and it went through its morphing stage. The beauty that emerged was really wonderful! We let her go too, much to the dismay of experts! Since it is two years later again... who knows? We'll be on the lookout.
Dr. Tom Walker in Florida was helpful. University of Michigan has some good information and Lang Elliot an entymologist/photographer was helpful as well! They all said that this is rare but not unheard of. There are also yellow varieties.

Thats a Pink Katydid. It is normally found green. Here is another pink one some one else found:
