Synanthedon arkansasensis

Synanthedon arkansasensis
Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland, USA

Moth ID
I believe you are correct. This species is not commonly photographed or caught by collectors so being in Maryland is not surprising.

.
Thanks.

Any guesses?
I think Synanthedon arkansasensis looks pretty close but don't see any Maryland records.

This female is absolutely not
This female is absolutely not Synanthedon arkansasensis. There are no confirmed images of this species except the one female Paratype in MONA (1988). And that useless tiny image in MONA is not useable for comparison because there are 10 other similar species in the SE US, and most of those 10 are undescribed new species. Besides, I have confirmed that Duckworth and Eichlin determined at least 9 different species of clearwing moths all as being S. arkansasensis. The corrupted original 1973 TYPE series contained 5 different clearwing moth species. Images of male arkansasensis has never appeared in any print publication in the 48 years since it was described. I recently reviewed ~50 supposed arkansasensis from Georgia. None of the 50 were true arkansasensis. I end by saying around half of the images of arkansasensis found on the web are not arkansasensis.
