Grey fly - Ozodiceromyia notata - male

Grey fly - Ozodiceromyia notata - Male
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
May 18, 2007
Size: ~ 8 mm
The abdomen seemed unusually long for a fly - I've not seen this one before.

Moved
Moved from Stiletto Flies.

Ozodiceromyia notata, male.
Ozodiceromyia notata, male.

Thanks, Steve
- can you elaborate? What are the defining characteristics visible here? I see the resemblance to others in the guide, so I'm moving it, but it would be nice to fill out the info page a bit.

Interesting
Looks vaguely like a syrphid. Robber and mydas flies also have long abdomens, but I don't think any look like this. There's also a somewhat similar bee fly - male Aphoebantus - but this doesn't appear to be a bee fly posture.

therevidae
called stiletto flies due to long abdomen

Thanks, Keith!
First time I've photographed one of these guys!
