reminds me of Dioctria/Eudioctria... if Herschel happens upon this he will have a more informed opinion... i am by no means certain. check the pictures we have in those genera and see if anything looks the part.

Thanks for the ID. I've been trying to get a photo of one of these flies for some time and it looks like it finally happened.

 
Dioctria
There is only supposed to be one species in the east, including MI. Certainly looks quite a bit different from some of the other D. baumhaueri, which is the introduced species.

Eudioctria have a shorter stouter end segment on the antenna.

There is a Nannodioctria in FL only that I have been hoping someone down there would shoot.
