Buprestid
It reminds me of Buprestis (Cypriacis) striata. I'm just guessing, though. See guide page. Something in Buprestis anyway.

Thanks for the quick response
Thanks for the quick response... I am a total amateur, but after your initial guess I looked through the guide... Could it be this: Buprestis decora.? I also added another image with better color but a little out of focus...

Any idea what kind of wood it likes?

I am a total amateur with these too,
so we should probably wait for someone with more experience to narrow it down to species.

Cypriacis aurulenta....
Either the "golden buprestid," or Buprestis adjecta. The two are nearly identical, and I personally can't separate them. Ted MacRae can help, though, next time he passes through here.

Prob. right...
I'm pretty sure this is Cypriacis aurulenta. As Eric mentions, C. adjecta is similar; however, in that species the elytral intervals are more numerous and more closely spaced.

The genus Cypriacis was returned to subgenus under Buprestis in the recently published Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera, Volume 3 (Lobl & Smetana, 2006). Chuck Bellamy intends to follow this classification in his forthcoming World Catalogue; however, I am reluctant to accept the change as there was no discussion in rebuttal to Kurosawa's (1988) strong case in support of full generic status.
