Red White and Black Jumper - Phidippus whitmani - male

Red White and Black Jumper - Phidippus whitmani - Male
Montgomery County, Texas, USA
July 26, 2015
A lot of white hair makes it look different from the P. cardinalis images in BugGuide. Found it close to the ground on a small dead log in a wooded area. When spooked, it ran down toward the ground and just disappeared.
Thanks for your help.

Phidippus
This is an adult male Phidippus whitmani. The information that you provided is excellent. This species is found along the ground in woodland areas in the eastern half of the U.S. Texas would be the western limits of its range. It's the only Phidippus species that is commonly found in leaf litter.
