Jumping Spider - Hentzia mitrata - male

Jumping Spider - Hentzia mitrata - Male
Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
May 22, 2007
Size: ~4.5mm
Found going up one of my trees (Ailanthus altissima). Very neat little spider. It would walk a few steps and then stop and wave its front legs up and down a couple of times. Whenever I tapped the tree nearby, to try to get it to stop going up, it would simply drop to the ground instead. It seemed to false charge the Cremato*gaster ants everytime one came near, which was often since they live up in the tree. Hentzia mitrata?
