Sympistis - Sympistis forbesi

Sympistis - Sympistis forbesi
along Hwy 88 near Praag, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, USA
August 12, 2015
I reared 2 larvae from Feverwort - Triosteum perfoliatum - and this is the first adult that emerged. Larvae were collected at the beginning of May, 2015, from a savanna remnant on our land in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. I've never found Feverwort growing here naturally - I collected seeds of these plants from Pierce County, Wisconsin, about 30 miles from here, and scattered them in my savanna. Now, a few years later, we have about a dozen plants, and I found several dozen Sympistis caterpillars on them. I know there are Feverwort plants closer than 30 miles - the ones I know about are about 8 miles away. It would be interesting to know where the moths that laid these eggs came from.
