Meloidea? Epicauta?

Meloidea? Epicauta?
Mill Valley, Marin County, California, USA
May 20, 2007
Size: 1/2 inch
Found in California poppy.

Meloidea
Thanks. Is there anything easier than "patch of silky hairs underneath front femur" to get it to genus?

Ha! I didn't even know that :-)
I was looking for agreement in general appearance, having collected quite a few of the genus. A straight down dorsal view would have helped me.

Certainly is
a meloid. I can't see enough to say it's Epicauta but there's nothing that tells me it isn't.

you got it right...genus Epicauta
I know this is a late reply but I just found several of those little blister beetles in Contra Costa Co. CA and after extensive checking I have to concur with you that it is an Epicauta...and possible species puncticollis....but you would have to do alot more ID work to confirm that...I am still always amazed how many species look so much alike.
