Bee fly - Hystricia abrupta

Bee fly - Hystricia abrupta
Hawley, Franklin County, Massachusetts, USA

Moved from ID Request.

tachnid fly
the spiky bristles give it away
perhaps this one or something in the neighborhood

Different genus
Probably Hystricia abrupta. The fly you linked has extremely long palps and the bristles on the abdomen are in neat lines along the edges of tergites.

thanks for the correction
that's why I added the "perhaps" and "something in the neighborhood" - just a pointer in the direction of tachnids. I should have looked harder for a better example to thumb

Thank you!
That's it exactly.
