Monarch - Danaus plexippus - male

Monarch - Danaus plexippus - Male
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
May 27, 2007
Well, the Indy 500 was in rain delay, so I stepped outside to see if there were any Butterflies out today. I saw a couple of Monarchs, among others, and this one was kind enough to sit still long enough so that it's wings flapped open for this closeup shot. I was about 7 inches away, so I'm surprised it let me get that close.

Nice image
It is a male.

Pristine
A particularly nice specimen.
