Woodland fly - Xylomya tenthredinoides

Woodland fly - Xylomya tenthredinoides
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
May 27, 2007
Size: ~11mm
We found this delicate yellow fly today and realized after looking through bugguide that it's the same one we photographed last year, but much paler. Does that mean these have just recently emerged from their pupae?

It would probably be relatively easy to collect one of these for someone, if that would help with the identification. We'd also need to know how to store and ship it.
