Water Bug -
Belostoma
St. Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland, USA
May 27, 2007
Size: 2-3 cm
I'm thinking creeping water bug, but its the first one I've seen in real life. It was in a very richly inhabited pond.

Gian Water Bug?
Hi Susan, it looks more like a immature Giant Water Bug, possibly of the genus
Belostoma
.

Thanks!
Thank you, Tony--first time I've seen an immature one!
