Robberfly - Laphria virginica - female

Robberfly - Laphria virginica - Female
Adams County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 10, 2005
Am I correct that this is a Laphria virginica, female?

Yes sir
And on this fine shot you can see the scutellar hairs are clearly black. (Hairs jutting out over the top of the wing surface from the back of the thorax.) These would be yellow in the closely related L flavicollis, which is now past its numbers peak for spring.

Robber fly
Thanks Hershel. I always appreciate your explanations.
