This is almost certain with it being on Willow in Oklahoma. Red-spotted Purple is possible, but unlikely, since it tends to favor other plants in that region (such as various Apples).

or perhaps something very closely related. Compare:



I don't see the translucence which would sometimes indicate immminent emergence, but I'm not sure how it would look in this species anyway. Seems like the chrysalis may retain most of its color:

Thanks Hannah, that sure looks like it. I will wait and see if I can catch it emerging.

Looks like it attached to willow, and it could be a Viceroy.... probably too far south to be a White Admiral....

Yes willow and I have found two others, one on the same tree and one on the boardwalk by the tree. I check them everyday in hopes of seeing onr emerge.
