This fly really fooled me when I took the photo. I thought it was a bumb*lebee but when I could look at the photo more carefully on the computer I saw it was a fly. It was the size of a bumb*lebee.

we posted something similar but without the yellow abdomen and it was identified as a Mallota species. We're guessing that's what you have here since this doesn't look like the images under Merodon. See what you think.

 
I agree that it looks like it
I agree that it looks like it would be a Mallota species. It's really not a very good photo because it is hard to see the details on the wings. The hind legs look large which is one of the characteristics of the Mallota species.
