Bumblebee - Bombus vagans

Bumblebee - Bombus vagans
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
May 31, 2007
This bumblebee looked like it was trying to clean something off of its proboscis as it was "seated" in this position for some time. The bumblebees have been going to the flowers on the feverwort (Triosteum perfoliatum), the leaves of which are quite sticky to the touch. I don't know if that is what caused this problem for the bee, however.

Thanks for the ID. I noticed that there were a couple of other photos in the collection showing similar behavior to this one. On another note, I looked all this past summer but did not find any B. af*finis this summer in the area where I photographed one last fall.
