That really looks close. And some of the other posted photos of Gnadochaeta were taken only a few miles from here -- same time of year but two years earlier.

There they are
I get it. It isn't missing vibrissae. They are high up on a narrow face, like in Microphthalma.

Photo 480396 looks the same.

Tachinidae?
I think this is an odd Tachinidae. There is a large, black Tachinidae with no vibrissae, and it's in a tribe (Palpostomatini) with some not-very-bristly, big-eyed species, but it doesn't quite look like this.

Edit: Some Phasiinae are similar, but without the projecting face.
