Leafhopper - Prokelisia

Leafhopper - Prokelisia
Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, USA

Size: 5-6 mm
Came to UV light. Checked all the Leafhopper twice - no luck. Must have missed it.

Prokelisia
This is a genus of Delphacidae that lives on salt marsh grasses. You need to see the face (underside of the head) to be sure of the species, but I would expect it to be P. dolus, which is very common in the northern coastal areas.

Thank You
That is very interesting. Brooklyn and Queens has a fantastic salt marsh in Jamaica Bay. Unfortunately, it is vanishing at an alarming rate. I doubt this fellow is responsible but I found a web site which talked about the negative impact of Prokelisia on Spartina, a salt marsh grass.

Also interesting to me is that I found this fellow in my back yard. I live in a row house in the middle of Brooklyn, 5 miles from the nearest salt marsh. I'm surprised he got here.

Doing a Google search, I found only one useful image of Prokelisia and there is no guide page in Bugguide. The images did match up nicely, though.

Just a suggestion
Have you checked out Psyllidae?

Neither:-)
This is almost certainly a delphacid (large first antennal segment). Great shot!

Javesella?
Thanks Eric.

I replaced the photo with a larger res image (click "full size"). Looking at the hind leg and wing venations, I see that it matches well with images I've found under Javesella in Bugguide.
