Why not turn their abundance
into an opportunity! With your photographic skills you could make a valuable contribution to Deer Fly images; possibly as many as 30 species in Wisconsin. With such excellent photos it should be possible to ID every specimen. A frontal view of the face is a useful character for identification.

Thanks for the compliment on the photography. Even though the deer flies are pests, they really do have pretty eyes which I noticed when taking the photos. Currently I'm concentrating on getting photos of any insects I find in the vicinity. If past summers are any indication, there will be more deer flies about and they'll be photographed.
