Black winged bug - Sialis

Black winged bug - Sialis
Fabius, Onondaga County, New York, USA
May 20, 2015
Size: Length: 16mm
I was cleaning up my hard drive and I was going to throw this away because I didn't get a good picture, but I'd really like to know what it is.

I thought it was a caddisfly when I picked it up, but that can't be right. I think it looks more like a stonefly except for the broad, vertically oriented wings. I know more than before I started posting to bugguide, but obviously not much--just enough to be dangerous.
