Carolina Mantis - Stagmomantis carolina - male

Carolina Mantis - Stagmomantis carolina - Male
Bowie, Prince George's County, Maryland, USA
August 28, 2004
Someone told me this was probably a Carolina Mantis, but it has no white on the wings (wing covers?) like in Pat Coin's photos here. Regional variation or some other species?

Male Carolina mantis
This is a male Carolina mantis. This is also the "standard" color pattern, a mottled greenish brown. Females are flightless, much larger, and are either green, or grizzled gray.
