Moth Cocoon

Moth Cocoon
Yaphank, Suffolk County, New York, USA
August 20, 2015
A friend and I found this moth cocoon in a cavity between tree bark. Although I do not know what kind of moth it is (since I did not remove the pupa from its cocoon), my best guess is that it could be a silk moth, maybe a cecropia moth? I did not pay attention to the kind of tree it was found at. Photo was taken at 6:44 pm at a public park near a river.

Size?
Based on how big it looks next to the lichen, this is much too small to be a silk moth cocoon.

Size
Unfortunately, I did not record the size of the cocoon in order to help aid in its identification. It definitely appears that the size of the cocoon is too small to be that of a silk moth. Maybe it could be an eastern tent moth or a forest tent moth cocoon?

Possibly
But it looks like it may be too small for that as well.
