Interesting wasp!
Even: could you specify the locality a little more? Was it on the north rim? I suspect this could be Polistes kaibabensis, a species restricted to the Grand Canyon area. It would be new for the guide.

Two more images: adding more
Two more images: adding more of the dorsal thoracic surface, as well as better image of antennal coloration. I imagine you could frass the unnecessary ones after you determine which ones are unnecessary.
