Is this some kind of roach?!! - Ectobius pallidus
Fitchburg, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
June 7, 2007
Size: about 0.5 inches
Found this guy inside. Please tell me it's not a cockroach of some kind:-)

Moved
I agree with Robin, this is Ectobius pallidus. See the Ectobius info page for comparisons of coloration. Moved from Ectobius lapponicus.

why not Ectobius pallidus?
looks very similar to this image IDed as E. pallidus by Donald Chandler

Roach.
I don't recognize this as a domicilatory pest, so either it is a wood roach, or a recently-introduced pest. I would see what someone in the state ag department has to say about this image, just to be on the safe side.

Not necessarily a bad thing
Most cockroaches are harmless outdoor species that are rarely seen by, let alone a nuisance to, humans. Of course, if you found it indoors, then it's probably one of the pest species. Although they're overrated as disease carriers, those species are best eliminated.

Sorry
Definitely a cockroach.
