Eastern Tent Caterpillar - Cocoon - Malacosoma americanum

Eastern Tent Caterpillar - Cocoon - Malacosoma americanum
Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 4, 2007
Eggs, larvae, adults all covered for this very common species ... but no cocoons yet, it seems, so here's an image of a typical one.
Usually found on tree trunks, crevices, or in this case, on structures (usually along edges or corners). The cocoons are impregnated with a yellow powder which gives them their color.
