Spiny oak slug? - Euclea incisa

Spiny oak slug? - Euclea incisa
New Braunfels, Comal County, Texas, USA
November 19, 2015
Size: approx. 2.5cm
I found this caterpillar on our trash can today. It looks like a spiny oak slug to me but I would greatly appreciate confirmation or correction before I put it in the guide. It is the first one like this I have ever seen. Thanks in advance!!!

Moved tentatively
Moved from Euclea.

Moved per Dr. Epstein's ID.

Nice addition to the guide, we did not have an immature yet.

Euclea incisa
This appears to be consistent in pattern with Euclea incisa in your area

Thank you!
Thank you so much!

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

I think a couple species occur in Texas, which cannot be reliably separated as caterpillars.

Ah cool
Thanks for the help! I wonder how severe their sting is? I have this one in a cage. I'm hopin to rear it to adulthood.

Stinging Cats
They are not the worst, but different people have different reactions.
Some good information about stinging cats can be found here.
If you have previously had a bad reaction to insects In the past or have particularly sensitive skin I would avoid touching.

Good luck with your rearing; if you are able, it is always nice to have a picture of adult insects associated with their larva.
