phoretic mites

Mites on Chilocorus
These mites are probably deutonymphs of Hemisarcoptes cooremani (Astigmata: Hemisarcoptidae), a common associate of C. cacti across its range. Feeding stages of this mite are also predators on diaspidid scale insects. The mites typically attach on the undersides of the elytra but can be so abundant they can be found externally.
