Red Admiral caterpillar eating a nettle - Vanessa atalanta

Almost exactly a month ago, when I took this path last, I was swarmed by Red Admirals, so I assume these little beasties eating the nettles are their larva.

This one was nearly red and had white spikes. Interesting variation.
