Beetle - Geotrupes semiopacus

Size: about 1 1/2 cm or so
Luckily, I spotted this beetle struggling in the water that had accumulated in our barbeque from recent rains. I was able to scoop it out and bring it to a safe spot to dry off. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of beetle this is. Thank you.
