Wooded area near a creek. Midafternoon, 88F. I waited for it to open its wings but it flew away too quickly for a shot.

Very annoying to photograph
You did well. These things are quite skittish and don't look all that cosmetic anyway. Just when you get to the point when you're ready to pack it in, one will probably land on our head or shoulder. And that's no exaggeration.

Hope you get some nice swallowtails or monarchs!
