Click Beetle - Pseudanostirus triundulatus

Click Beetle - Pseudanostirus triundulatus
Mt. Washington, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
June 8, 2007

Thanks Tim
I thought it looked like my other NH one, but I know these can be tricky.

something triundulat
unlike the many "brown clicks", we should be able to ID this striking one. There appears to be 2 similar "triundulat" bouncing around the click genera. One described as rare by D&A. Any chance you have a size for this one? (>< 9mm?)

Tim,
a guess at the size is about 8mm. If I can get an accurate size, I'll post it.

Pseudanostirus triundulata
assuming this is under 9mm, than this appears to be Pseudanostirus triundulata (Randall). The mid and hind tarsi should also be unlobed, but I've had difficulty telling the difference with certainty. The other possibility is Harminius triundulatus Mannerheim 1853 (Athous), but D&A lists that one at 9-15mm and "rare".
