Specimen Number 382
Locality: Coastal SW Washington State at the edge of Willapa Bay
Scale: Graph squares ¼ in² or 6.35 mm per side
geo:lat=46.624389 geo:lon=-123.949728
Note: A. pica has basic similarities with the Artichoke Plume P. carduidactyla. I find distinctive the mottled dorsal wing surface which creates a darker overall form, the more defined chevron pattern on the dorsal abdomen with usually two light (white) among a darker set and the distinctive distal portion of the closed wing surface with poorly defined triangle and absent white border. A second dark transverse band with a narrow white border just short of the actual margin of the folded wing. It is also a slightly smaller form from the six or so individuals in this collection.
