Variegated Fritillary For Illinois In June - Euptoieta claudia

Variegated Fritillary For Illinois In June - Euptoieta claudia
Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
June 12, 2007
Data posting for this species in Illinois, for the month of June.

After commenting on one somebody else posted yesterday by saying I hadn't seen any in my area yet this season, what appears in front of me, but the first Variegated Fritillary I've seen so far.

Morse Code
Has anyone ever noticed that the letters U-S-A are spelled out in Morse Code along the wing edges of a Variegated Fritillary? That is, if a black spot can be considered a dot and a blank area a dash. Just thought I'd like to point that out.

Of course, if you follow the rest of the markings around the wing, starting from left to right, they only spell out the letters H-N-S-D.
