Springtail Captured by Ant - Willowsia nigromaculata

Springtail Captured by Ant - Willowsia nigromaculata
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
June 13, 2007
Size: ~2.5 mm
I was actually trying to get a close-up shot of this springtail, when an ant grabbed it by the collophore thus preventing it from escape. I would love any ID info on either species...(perhaps Entomobryidae for the springtail?)

Moved
Moved from Elongate-bodied Springtails. Thanks Frans. This little drama was shot on the metal seam of our sliding glass door. So yes, it was very close to the house.

Say thank you to the ant ...
she possibly saved you from a domestic infestation of W. nigromaculata ;-)

Springtail = Willowsia nigromaculata
Indeed of the family Entomobryidae. New species for Bugguide.
What a dramatic picture!
BTW, the ant is not holding the collophore but the backward extended furca.

Willowsia nigromaculata, just like its close relative, Willowsia buski, is one of those springtails that may invade your home...
