Horse Fly, likely T. sulcifrons - Tabanus sulcifrons - male

Horse Fly, likely T. sulcifrons - Tabanus sulcifrons - Male
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
September 3, 2003
Found during the day on a wall that is lighted all night.

See comments by Tony Thomas for probable identification.

Tabanus sp. male
I've struggled with this guy, would like to have seen a dorsal shot and a front head shot as well (entomologists, never satisified!).
Let's go with Tabanus sulcifrons.

Thanks!
Yes, I regret not getting more shots--I just took one on the fly, as it were, not really being interested in the group at that time.
