Pennisetia sp.? - Synanthedon - Female
Novato, Marin County, California, USA
June 13, 2007
Size: 1.5 cm
I don't think this is Pennisetia marginata, but perhaps a western member of the same genus?

Synanthedon sp. female
The specimen in question belongs to Synanthedon sp., most likely Synanthedon bibionipennis, though S. resplendens could also be a possibility (was the specimen found near oak trees or on agricultural land, e.g. strawberry crops?).
