Garden visitor - Alaus oculatus
Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County, New York, USA
June 12, 2007
Size: 2 inches
I was surprised by this bug in my garden. It flew to the fence and was "studying" me. I have never seen one before and would like an ID.

Alaus oculatus
An "Eyed Elater," Alaus oculatus, in the Click Beetle family. Nice find!
