yes, this is a Stenopelmatus sp.
These should not be found anywhere near NC, see the distribution map here. Is it possible that you actually took this photo elsewhere? Otherwise this would be a really interesting record, or perhaps an escapee

 
Could be an accidental transplant too.
If anyone nearby, or even the OP, moved recently from the west to NC.
